Afterschool Practices: Mondays, Tuesdays, & Thursdays in Room 137

Parliamentary Debate, known as Parli, is the largest branch of Forensics. You’ll engage in rapid-fire alternating speeches against another pair, agreeing or disagreeing with a prompt assigned to you 30 minutes prior. No need to worry about joining solo- we’ll always pair you up!

Parli’s spontaneity sets it apart, and it offers a diverse diaspora of topics that change every time you debate: a format that is unique to Parli. Each division is led by two experienced Captains who tailor practice to what your group needs to focus on most. Sometimes, we practice with Lincoln HS, or Captains will divide our fun big group of debaters into smaller parts of similar skill levels. This helps your practice, and making friends in our big branch! 

Everyone is encouraged to attend four tournaments a year, and more when you advance your skills: this year we sent four teams to State Qualifiers, and one to All States! The Parli skillset will follow you through your academic career. The current LSA President is a Parli Captain, and we have sent students to Swarthmore, Harvard, UC Davis, and UNC Chapel Hill in past years.
